From North Raleigh infancy, Fox Road Elementary has been point of blessing for the members of the Summit and for the employees at the school. Currently, we have a group that is led by Matt Bailey that works through some of the exterior issues with the school and blesses them by keeping up with the beautification of the grounds. George Derbyshire is one the current leaders that is trying to establish a tutoring group to help bless the students and the teachers. Serve RDU is the adrenaline shot that allows us to bless the staff more than what we can do on a monthly basis. In previous years the Lord helped us paint the hallways, construct bookshelves, paint murals, and much more. This year we have been asked to paint hallways and classrooms, organize math and science materials in trailers, bring life into the computer labs and hallways of the school. By God’s grace all of this is possible. We aim to make Jesus bigger than ourselves, to be a servants, loving as Christ as loved us. George and Matt are looking for some leaders heading into next fall and will be honored to have some people lock arms with them as they continue to strive to bring Glory to Jesus at Fox Road Elementary.

The final EQUIP: Leadership Forum for the season is next Tuesday, May 15th from 6:30-8:30pm. The topic for the main session will be “Discipleship: Leading Others in Gospel Growth” and will feature teaching by Small Groups Pastor Spence Shelton. Spence will take us through Summit’s plan for personal discipleship and methodology. Please RSVP at www.summitrdu.com/leadership to let us know you are coming and what cohort you’ll be joining.

If you have been involved in raising up leaders, discipling others, or you’ve taken up the call from April’s Forum (click on the bottom right video clip) to pour yourselves into others, then you’ll want to hear Spence’s talk. Small group leaders, we would love to have you there to hear and interact with vision from your pastor in the first and second sessions of the evening.

The Main Session will be shorter, but action packed with great teaching and some vital summer opportunities to consider. The cohort time will pick up from there to give extra time to the discipleship that happens during the second hour of the Forums. Cohorts include: Church Planting, Preparing for Marriage, Worship and the Arts, and Small Groups.

We won’t have another EQUIP: Leadership Forum this summer, so it’s your last chance, for a while, to hear vision from Summit pastors and connect with other leaders in the church. If you need childcare for the event, please let us know by Sunday night. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Hey Summit,

This weekend we started our new sermon series, Hebrews: Christ is Better.

Pastor J.D. spent some time challenging us to use this as an opportunity to jump-start our devotional life. Hebrews is a rich book, with plenty of references to other parts of Scripture. It’s a book that has some hard-to-interpret statements that require careful study, but it also rewards those who study it closely.

Early in the message, he suggested the following outline as an optional structure for a fruitful devotional time:

-15 minutes of reading the Bible

-15 minutes of prayer

-15 minutes of edifying reading

Our Equip blog has some great suggestions for how you might flesh this out in your time this week! Be sure to check it out.

Happy Reading!

Family Worship Night has been a place where our families have laughed together, danced together, learned together, and ultimately worshiped together. On May 18th we are excited to announce that Pastor JD will be coming to share the gospel in a way that will bless your entire family. We cannot encourage you enough to bring your kids on this night to hear the gospel, sing (and dance!) your favorite kids worship songs, and share in the celebration of baptism that will take place at the end of the night. Make sure you stick around afterwards to eat some free cake and congratulate all our kids who will be baptized! FWN. Friday, 5/18. 6:30pm at Brier Creek South.

A fun and simple event is coming up this Thursday, April 19, at the McDonalds at the corner of Old Wake Forest and Capital Blvd near the North Raleigh Campus.

It is McTeacher night during which the teachers and staff of Fox Road Elementery serve food and wait on guests from 5 pm to 8 pm and they get a percentage of all food sold to be used at the school.

So, all you have to do is show up between those times, order lots of food, meet some Fox Road people and have a great time!

Wear something that says “The Summit” on it somehow also. It would be a powerful testimony for us to make a big presence. We are continuing to hear stories of how The Summit is have a big impact on the school. Our love for our neighbors is starting to become a curious thing to those who are skeptical.

Pray hard and come join the fun. Please forward this to everyone you know at The Summit

What does it mean to love our immigrant neighbors when immigration has become such a volatile topic? Only 9% of Protestants claim that their faith is the biggest influence in thinking about immigration. Yet, immigrant churches are the fastest growing churches in the US. By 2050, it is estimated that White Americans will no longer be the majority of residents in the US. What does Scripture say about immigration? World Relief Durham is hosting an event on April 27th (7-9p) that will try to provide a Biblical perspective on loving all our immigrant neighbors. The event will be at Church of the Good Shepherd in Durham and will include a time for audience questions. For more information, go to: www.wr.org/durham/welcomingthestranger.
